  1. Recovery kit

Posted by Unknown on 15th Dec 2016

Arrived on time. Appears to be very good quality. Good quality and value compared to others on line. We will see how it stands up when in actual use pulling a stuck vehicle.

Product Description

The Viking Emergency Tow / Recovery Kit is the first piece of recovery equipment any vehicle should have. It has a kinetic Tow Rope (your choice between two sizes of thickness) and two 3/4" Bow Shackles that are the essential tools to connect your stuck vehicle to another for recovery.  The kinetic rope is made from the highest quality US made nylon which is stronger and better quality than cheap imitations.  When used it acts like a rubber band to absorb energy as the other vehicle moves, reducing shock to both vehicles, thus reducing the likelyhood of vehicle damage.

Features:

  • The best tow kit available
  • High stretch nylon kinetic rope
  • Form fitting leather gloves with elastic back for comfort fit
  • Heavy duty bag with highly reflective 3M safety markers

Includes:

  • Your choice between two tow rope thicknesses (see below)
    • 3/4" x 30' (19mm x 9m) Tow Rope / Kinetic Recovery Rope; MBS: 17,500 lbs. (8t) (Made in USA)
    • 1" x 30' (25mm x 9m) Tow Rope / Kinetic Recovery Rope; 33,500 lbs. (15.2t) (Made in USA)
  • Two 3/4" Bow Shackles; with Black Powder Coating over Zinc Plating. 4.75 Ton 4:1 WLL, MBS: 34,000 lbs.
  • Leather recovery gloves
  • M2 Gear Bag (Made in USA)

To understand how to make the right choice of rope diameter, please see our tow rope product page.

SAFETY NOTE: Do not use tow ropes or tow straps (kinetic snatch straps etc.) w/ winches. Never connect ropes/straps end-to-end w/ other kinetic ropes/straps, w/ shackles or metal connectors.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY NOTE: The point at which you should not try a kinetic energy recovery is when there is a significant weight discrepancy between the two vehicles (e.g., the weight difference between a G-Wagen and a small Toyota pickup or between a small Toyota and an ATV) and you do not have a tow rope suitable for use with the smaller vehicle.  In such situations, you ought to use a tow rope suited for the smaller of the two veihicles. The smaller vehicle in such situations typically does not have recovery points that can withstand the impact of a dynamic recovery from a rope that is made for a significantly larger vehicle. A rope that is too thick, and used to recover a small vehicle, will not offer enough elasticity to the recovery points on that small vehicle. The difference of a 5,000 Lb. vs. 4,000 Lb. truck doesn't usually matter that much.  For your safety, you should also never shock load the rope.  For example, you should never create too much slack on the recovery rope while connected to any other vehicle and then floor it, creating a shock load.  This would put you at serious risk.
